Is it better to install IIS on a server with other roles or a dedicated server?

Hello,

I am doing an initial design and setup of a LAN and I am trying to figure out the amount of servers I will need. I may have to install IIS for internal use but not sure just yet. In the event that I will need it, I am trying to figure out if I can just add the role to my AD DS or buy another server that is dedicated to IIS.

Suggestions?

I think Aiden has it right, it really depends. Try it both ways and see which one works best for you.

I know that I hate it when I ask a question and I get this answer, but….it depends. There are such widely differing demands placed on servers depending on what you are hosting, a static site is just not going to generate the same demands on hardware as a busy e-commerce site, for example. I suggest picking up a copy of IIS 7.0 Administrator's Pocket Companion by William Stanek to help guide you through it.
