What is a component of SEO that is generally overlooked?

I know the basics of SEO, such as keyword optimization and quality content, but what are some things that are commonly overlooked that should be considered for better optimization?

Commonly overlooked? Mobile/Tablet layout and performance of the website.

- Does it work on smart phone/mobile/tablet?

- How does it look? What is the user experience?

- How fast it loads on smart phone?

- How it looks on iOS, Android?

- What content it provides to the desktop/laptop users and what content to mobile users? Is the content from Desktop version of the website also suitable for the mobile visitors? Are they using same search queries? It is my opinion that desktop search and mobile search are not same. You tend to type less on mobile phone then on desktop, so re-think if your keyword strategy is good for mobile/tablet world.

I think a solid, logical URL structure is often overlooked. By clearly communicating the hierarchy of each page on a website, it makes it easier for search engines to properly determine the relevancy of a page to a specific search.

Page loading speed is important but often gets overlooked. You can use the pingdom tools to test your site's loading speed:

I believe Google is now taking site speed into consideration in its search criterion.
