How to find hidden files in Windows Vista?

My mom is still using Windows Vista on an old Dell PC, and despite my best efforts, i.e. “Mom, I will buy you a new computer and set it up for you,” she doesn’t want to change. Ugh. Anyway, she got all privacy minded a year or two ago after seeing some scary hacker piece on the news and decided to hide some files, and now she isn’t sure how to find them. How do you locate hidden files in Vista?

Go to the Control Panel, then click on APPEARANCE AND PERSONALIZATION. Select FOLDER OPTIONS > VIEW. Go to Advanced Settings, where you should see Hidden Files and Folders. Click the Show Hidden Files and Folders button then OK, and you should be able to see all files normally.

Show hidden files

"Follow these steps to display hidden files and folders.

Open Folder Options by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Folder Options.

Click the View tab.

Under Advanced settings, click Show hidden files and folders, and then click OK."
