What are the major changes in Google’s new Hummingbird update?

Google’s new search algorithm has been active for about a month now. Anyone know what the significant changes were, and how it affects SEO efforts?

FAQ: All About The New Google “Hummingbird” Algorithm

"Google has a new search algorithm, the system it uses to sort through all the information it has when you search and come back with answers. It’s called “Hummingbird” and below, what we know about it so far."

Hummingbird is a major change. It really shifts search away from keywords to semantic and contextual searches. Combined with Google’s decision to make search term data unavailable to the public, this significantly complicates SEO efforts. Frankly, this may be a good thing in the long term if it prevents gaming the system in a way that makes a website show up higher in the search terms only because of keyword use, versus a site with better content but a less aggressive SEO effort.
