Is BBM for Android different than any other messaging app?

Is there any need for BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) on Android? What’s does BBM do that makes it better than other messaging options? There is talk of it coming to the Android platform, and I have to wonder how much demand there is for it at this point, but maybe I'm missing something since I never owned a BlackBerry.

If you want to be notified when BBM is ready for Android, see this page:

To be fair, BBM does have delivery and read confirmation, which is pretty nice. I assume that will be true to the Android app as well. I’m just not sure how many people will bother to give it a try.

At the risk of incurring the wrath of BBM fans, there's absolutely no "need" for it on Android. Messaging is a commodity service at this point, and while some platforms may include features and functionality not available on others, they all do pretty much the same thing in the same way.

But if BBM on Android is free and you try it and like it, then you should use it.
