If your company supports BYOD, does it require employees to supply their own devices and data plan?

My company supports BYOD, and while you have to pay for your own device, the company pays for the data/call charges. I was talking to someone about BYOD from another company, and according to him, I was fortunate, since most companies don’t pay for anything. Is that right? Does anyone know what is the most common practice? It seems fair that if you are using your device for work that it be at least partially subsidized.

The latest Good Technology survey about BYOD confirms that you are, in fact, more fortunate that most people, but less fortunate than some. 50% of companies that support BYOD pay nothing, Only 7% pay for the all service cost, while expecting you to buy the device. Some companies provide a stipend to partially cover costs, or allow you to expense your device. Here is more data if you want to see it, including support of BYOD by industry.
