How fast of an internet connection is needed to stream Amazon Instant Video?

I was thinking of signing up for Amazon Prime, mainly for their streaming video service so I can rent new releases that I can’t get on Netflix. Plus I love me some Downton Abbey! At my home, I can’t get decent internet service though, the best available and what I have is DSL rated at 3Mbps, although reality is slightly slower than that even. Does anyone know if that is fast enough for Amazon Instant Video?

 It will work ok with your service, but you will get low quality video, possibly even the lowest quality that Amazon streams. Although it will stream without buffer on a 2mbps connection, it's not going to look good doing it. Amazon isn’t as good as Netflix at streaming quality video, and it really shows with slower connections. Expect to notice it most with darker scenes, but it will never really look good until you get faster service. I don’t know how long you’ve had Netflix, but I’ve noticed their streaming video quality has gotten significantly better over the past 2-3 years. Expect the current Amazon service to look like Netflix did a couple of years ago.
