Will it cause any additional harm to continue to use an iPhone with a broken screen?

I have a cracked screen on an iPhone, but it works ok. Could it cause damage to other components if I don’t replace it right away, or is it ok to continue to use it?

As long as the glass is intact, it probably isn't a problem. But if it's actually broken, with glass coming off of it then take it to an Apple store for repairs ASAP.

I think the main thing to worry about is cutting yourself on the screen if it is broken badly enough.

I have known many people who have gone long periods using a smartphone with a cracked screen and the device wasn't adversely affected. A more severe crack (with multiple veins) might be more likely to lead to tiny glass shards breaking off and moving around inside the smartphone, which theoretically could damage the device. If yours is a simple, small crack, you're probably OK.
