What’s the advantages/disadvantages between an upgrade installation vs a full installation of Windows Server?

When upgrading to Windows Server 2012 from Server 2008, are there any advantages to performing a full installation instead of an upgrade install?

It seems to me that an upgrade is a time saver, since it would already have all of your stuff included in it rather than having to set it all up from scratch.

Nothing really comes to mind as a disadvantage to an upgrade install. An upgrade should carry over all of the data and configurations that were already installed (I think), so it can save you a fair amount of time and effort. Personally I would just do the upgrade. Make sure to back everything up first, though.
