Does the Microsoft Surface RT’s price cut make it a good purchase?

Microsoft just announced a $150 cut for the Surface RT, but it runs RT instead of Windows 8. The new price point puts it in the realm of something I will actually consider, although I have been waiting for the next generation Nexus 7. If it ran Windows 8, I think I would go ahead and purchase it, but I’m not so sure about RT. Anyone with RT experience? Is it “good enough”?

If you plan on upgrading to the latest and greatest in a few years then yes!

I lusted after the windows tablet for months before it was launched and loved what i saw. Sure its not full windows but it does give you access to word and other productivity tools you use day to day. Plus its light, fast and has a great optional keyboard.

No, not at all. It's a desperation move on Microsoft's part. RT will probably be discontinued at some point in the near future. Why buy a device that's most likely destined for oblivion? Android or iOS are much better bets.

I suspect RT is a Windows OS branch that will soon disappear. Hardware wise, it’s a pretty decent tablet for the money, but I still would not choose an RT tablet. Windows 8, fine. RT, nope. Software isn’t fully compatible, and I’m not a fan of gimped OSes. For the money, I would get a Nexus 10 (the 16GB version is only $50 more than the base Surface RT w/out keyboard), Galaxy Tab 3 or, even though I personally prefer Android, an iPad 2.
