Edward Snowden - Good guy or bad guy?

I wonder what most people think of the guy who leaked NSA surveillance techniques used on the American people. I suspect either way, many more people have started giving their personal privacy significantly more thought. I can see both positions vis a vis Snowden as having some merit: He did reveal what is, to me at least, a level of constant surveillance that is alarming, while at the same time, some legitimate capital B, capital G, Bad Guys now have a clearer idea of what to avoid to prevent detection. So in the end, was what Snowden did a good thing or not?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say. We won't know the true story for many years, if at all. No doubt there's some good and bad in it, like most things.

A couple of days ago there was an online survey, I think it was the Register, a UK based magazine, that asked folks what they thought of Snowden. There were 5 or 6 options, and of respondents, about 75% chose answers that were supportive of Snowden. There has been a lot of noise about Snowden being a traitor in some US press outlets, but  from my personal conversations and observations, I think it is clear that the majority of Americans....and the world public...reject that view. He may not have really considered the personal consequences of what he was doing, but I do think he was trying to do something he thought was right and important. I’d put the lad in the “good guy” category.
