When is Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie going to be released?

Any idea when the next version of Android will come out? I'm at the end of my 2 year sentence, er contract, and I'm trying to decide whether to go ahead and upgrade to a new device or wait a little longer for the next Android release.

Here's a look at what might be in it:

What will Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie be like?

"Rumours, history and indeed logic all suggest we’ll be seeing a new version of Android at Google I/O in May 2013 and, for a long time, it’s been believed the new build will be version 5.0 and dubbed Key Lime Pie (KLP).

What will be different in the next version of Android? Only Google knows for sure, but we can certainly suggest what we’d like to see."

Most of the speculation is that it will be sometime this spring. Google has introduced new versions of Android at Google I/O in the past, and there was leaked material from Qualcomm that suggested a spring 2013 release as well. Assuming that is correct, and of course it may not be, it will still take some time until you see 5.0 "in the wild". I would be surprised if devices running 5.0 are widely available before fall.

The rumors I see floating around the Internet say Google will unveil Key Lime Pie in mid-May, when Google stages its annual I/O event in San Francisco. It makes sense. I wonder, though, what implications that might have for the rumored and highly anticipated April release of Samsung's Galaxy S4. Would Samsung release a new phone -- and not just any new phone, but the successor to their hit Galaxy S3 -- a month before a major OS upgrade?
