How do you switch the default search engine in Safari?

I don't want to use any of the search engines offered by Safari for OS X. How can I change it so that the one I want (Ixquick) will be the default? Thx!

I think you can use the AnySearch extension - it should let you use whatever search engine you want.

Here's a suggestion from Macworld that involves "carefully editing one of Safari's binary." As part of the process you need to download a hex editor for the binary. This writer used HexFiend, which is free.

Then you just follow his directions. A commenter to this guy's post writes: "Be certain you have known good backups of any of these files that you edit, and also be aware that the next time the System or Safari is updated, there may be issues."
