How long will Microsoft continue to support Windows 7, now that Windows 8 is out?

Microsoft has supported XP for ever. At least it seems like forever. Does anyone know how long Windows 7 will be continue to be supported?

According to Microsoft, mainstream support for Windows 7 will end on January 12, 2015, with extended support to continue until 2020.  Incidentially, mainstream support for XP ended in 2009, but extended support is scheduled to continue until April 2014.

I'd expect support for another 4 years or so, give or take a bit. Windows 7 is pretty popular, so I can't see Microsoft just walking away from it quickly. Many companies will stay with Windows 7 until they see that Windows 8 is stable enough and secure enough to use. And some companies might drag out Windows 7 use because of the interface changes in Windows 8.
