What is Android 2.6.36?

I saw a cheap, and I mean really cheap, tablet for sale. The specs say that it is running Android 2.6.36. I'm pretty familiar with Android, but I don't know this one, and a quick google search didn't tell me much. Does anyone know any details about Android 2.6.36?

LOL, I think someone has been looking at the buy.com daily email deals this morning, because I just got one that listed a refurbished Pandigital tablet for $39.99.  I just looked at the specs and sure enough, it says Android 2.6.36.

I think they screwed up (or were being deceptive) and somebody typed in the Linux kernel version.  I'm pretty sure it is a Donut or Eclair tablet, and it should say either 1.5 or 1.6.  There has never been an android 2.6 as far as I know.  One thing I do know is that I wouldn't get a tablet running on Android 1.6 unless I needed a new doorstop.

It's running Gingerbread, a version of Android that was released back in 2010. So it's not up to date. You'd have to figure out if it can be upgraded to the latest release or not. If not, then it's probably not worth buying.

Here's some info on Gingerbread:

Android 2.3.x Gingerbread

BTW, it seems that Apple is headed toward a release of some sort of iPad mini soon. So if you want a less expensive tablet, you might want to sit tight and see what they are going to release. I believe the announcement will happen around October 10 or something like that.
