How much longer until the iPad 3 is released, and is it worth waiting on before purchasing a tablet?

There have been a lot of changes in the tablet market over the past few months, and $200 will now get you a usable, if limited tablet in the form of a Kindle Fire. Apple's iPad is obviously a more expensive product than Amazon's, with greater capability, but maybe not 2-3X as awesome, as its price would indicate. I would imagine that the next iPad will move the bar to keep in from of the low priced competition, but that's pretty much speculation. Would it make sense to hold off on the tablet purchase, or is the iPad 3 likely to just be an incremental improvement?

iPad 3 is already been out in the market since March 16, 2012 to selected countries. I was also one of those who grab a unit in our country last May. What I like most in this tablet is they upgraded some features and more thinner. It's new innovation Retina display and a Siri are just one of its new features. One thing I made so sad, that prior to this launching, I already bought variety of ipad cases knowing that it will fit, but wasn't because of the ipad 3 is very thin.

Just a follow up on this, rumors are swirling that the iPad 3 is headed for an April release. So save your pennies and stay tuned. It looks like it's going to have a much higher resolution screen too. So it will be great for ebooks and web browsing.

There is always going to be a new, unreleased product right around the corner.  The leading edge of technology is, by nature, always changing.  Sure there are times when it might be worth delaying a purchase.  In this case, I would look at Apple's history of iPad releases, and for the first two iPads, Apple announced them in early spring, so you don't really have that long to wait if you want to be an early arrival at the iPad 3 party.  I have seen a couple of articles that speculate a March release, but as far as I know that specific timing for release is just that - speculation.

I definitely think it is worth waiting.  In addition to the superior display anticipated on the iPad 3, there will be a new processor and hopefully improved battery life.  More power + better battery life = good times!

The iPad 3 is rumored to have a higher resolution display. That alone is a huge selling point for me. I have an iPad 1 but decided to skip the iPad 2 because it had the same display.

Personally, I'd wait until at least March before making a new tablet purchase. If you buy an older iPad or some other tablet you might end up regretting it when the iPad 3 finally arrives.

Here's a recent news story about it that you might find interesting:

IPad 3 Said to Have High-Def Screen, LTE

"The Cupertino, California-based company has been working on making the iPad compatible with a wireless standard called long- term evolution, or LTE, said one of the people. Carriers such as Verizon Wireless (VZ) and ATT Inc. (T) are rolling out LTE networks to give users faster access to data.

The new display is capable of greater resolution than the current iPad, with more pixels on its screen than some high- definition televisions, the person said. The pixels are small enough to make the images look like printed material, according to the person. Videos begin playing almost instantly because of the additional graphics processing, the person said."
