How to automatically hide the menu bar on a Mac?

How do you make a Mac’s menu bar auto hide? I’ve always had Windows PC set up to do it, and would like to have it the same way on a Mac (OS X El Capitan).
You're in luck, the feature to automatically hide the menu bar is new to OSX, and became available with El Capitan.

To setup auto-hide go to Settings > General. Check off the box to Automatically hide and show the menu bar.

Now the menu bar should be hidden, and you can hover over at the top of the screen to have it pop back up.
