How to delete files on a Windows PC without sending them to the recycle bin?

Is there a way to skip the step of sending deleted files to the recycle bin, then needing to empty the recycle bin to actually delete them? It just seems like an unnecessary step and waste of storage space.
You can hold the Shift-key while giving the delete command. The files will be deleted directly without going to the recycle bin. If you always want this you can disable the recycle bin entirely on a drive basis. (Right click the recycle bin and choose properties, click the drive and then check "don't move files to recycle bin"). See
