Which messaging apps have end-to-end encryption?

The new Facebook Messenger app says it offers end-to-end encryption. That’s great, but don’t other apps do the same? Which messenger apps offer end-to-end encryption?
Many messaging apps have built in encryption but the encryption usually keeps your messages secure in transit from you to the server, where the company can look at the messages if needed. Also not all of them have the feature turned on by default. The end-to-end encryption (E2EE) ensures that you message can only be viewed by the intended recipient. There are a number of messengers that use E2EE, and Facebook Messenger just joined the club. Some of the other messages are iMessage, Allo, WhatsApp, Signal, Viber, etc...
