Moving from IT support to IT project management?

I used to work in IT support for about 12 years when i was given the opportunity to be a project coordinator for software development , e-commerce and other applications as well, i really enjoyed that , today i'm unemployed and staying home with my kids but i want to go back to school to improve my skills; what other areas i should get involved with besides just completing the PMP cert. thanks for your help!
As far as certifications PMP should be sufficient. Take a look at some PM courses to get an understanding of some commonly used strategies such agile, waterfall… get familiarized with common terminology. Invest some time into finding, and getting familiarized with right software tools that you can utilizes. It would be huge time saver.
