What is two-factor authentication and why should I use it?

As a rule, when two-factor authentication is available for any account that has your personal or financial information stored, you should use it. As Sveta noted, it makes it far more difficult for anyone to gain unauthorized access to your accounts, and once you have used it to mark a specific device (your phone, laptop, tablet, etc) as trusted, you don't have to do anything more when logging in from the trusted device. It is one of the easiest and most effective ways to secure access to your accounts.
Two-factor authentication utilizes two different types of authentication -- for example a password you memorized and a generated PIN on a device you have. This is usually used once on new devices, networks and locations. This makes your account more secure, because someone who doesn't have the secondary device used for a PIN can't easily gain access to your account even if they know your password.
