How do browsers determine your location when location sharing is allowed?

I allowed location sharing today while visiting a website, and was somewhat surprised to see that it appeared I was in a city more than 100 miles away from my actual location. My PC is a Windows 7 machine with the Chrome browser. I assume if my IP address was being used, it would be much more accurate than that, so how is location determined?
your geolocation can be determined based on GPS, surrounding wireless networks, cell towers, and public ip address. From a PC it most likely uses wireless network and ip.
