What does the browser message “waiting for available socket” mean?

I was trying to go to a website, and it was taking a long time to load. In the bottom right corner of my browser, it showed that I was “waiting for available socket.” That’s the first time I’ve ever seen that. What does it mean?
Modern browsers restrict the number of simultaneous connections to the same origin to 6. If you attempt to make more connections at the same time, they will be blocked until active connections are closed.
Which browser were you using? This can occur when you have a lot of different tabs/connections to a single website. the browser only allows a certain amount of connections to certain types of web content like videos and images. I believe 6 is the default in Chrome.
