How to use sticky keys?

This is one of those “I can’t believe I never learned this” things, but after years of seeing the term “sticky keys” I suddenly realized that I have no idea how to actually use them. So...how do you use sticky keys on a Windows PC?
You can setup sticky keys to replace some commonly used keyboard shortcuts. Instead of using multiple keys you can press an hold an assigned key instead, this can be useful for example with combinations such as Ctrl+P (printing) or Ctrl+Alt+Del (lock/unlock computer).

The sticky key option can be turned on in control panel under under keyboard options in Ease of Access Center or Accessibility Options depending on the OS you use.
