What improvements does USB type C have over earlier standards other than a reversible connector?

The big improvement of USB type C over earlier versions is obviously the reversible connector - no more trying to figure out which way to insert the plug into your phone, PC, or whatever. Beyond this welcome change, are there other improvements that arrive with USB type C?
For one, USB 3.1 Type C can make charging MUCH faster - it can handle up to 100 watts, whereas USB 2.0 tops out around 2.5 (maybe 5, I can't recall for sure off the top of my head).

Also, transfer speeds are faster - 10Gbps max vs 5Gbps with a USB 3.0 cable.
