How to reset lost password on Windows 7 PC?

My wife pulled out an old Windows 7 laptop after breaking the display on her current laptop. Unfortunately, she has forgotten her password since she hasn’t used the thing in about 2 years. How can she (and by she, I mean “I”) reset her forgotten password so that she can use the laptop?
If you have a password reset disk, then you can easily reset your password.
If you didn't have pre-created reset disk, then you have to try third party app like iSeePassword.
You can use a spare PC to make a PCUnlocker Live CD. Next take the CD to boot up your old Windows 7 machine and it allows you to clear a lost user password.
If you have access of admin account, you can directly go control panel > user accounts > select account(you wanna reset password)> change password.
now you may try to put a new password.

Else you can try to reset the password by the help of ERD commander software. it will reset the password for you.
Sveta has a good answer, but here's a link to the Windows 7 support site in case you need it:
If you have an admin account on the computer you can reset the password through it Control Panel > User Accounts > Manage another account.

You can also create a password reset disk
1. If you enter the wrong password when you attempt to log on, Windows displays a message that the password is incorrect. Click OK to close the message.
2. Click Reset password, and then insert your password reset disk or USB flash drive.
3. Follow the steps in the Password Reset wizard to create a new password.
4. Log on with the new password. If you forget your password again, you can use the same password reset disk. You don't need to make a new one.
