How to play DVDs on Windows 10?

I just upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 10, and one unexpected side effect seems to be that I can’t play DVDs any longer. Am I missing something here? What do I need to do to be able to play DVDs? I really don’t want to pay Microsoft money to regain the same functionality that I had yesterday.

Though depending on what OS version you upgraded from, Windows DVD Player is available as free update for OS’s that came with WMP (Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 Pro, Enterprise and Ultimate.)
In any case, you can use free 3ed party player that will do the job just as well. I recommend VLC which can be downloaded from
