Will X-Ray machines ruin my hard drive?

so, my laptop was working perfectly fine before I went inside of the federal building for MEPS. When I left I tried to use my laptop again and it said no bootable device. So, my question is did it just format my hard drive or ruin it? Like, can I just get windows 8 and fix it or do I have to buy a new hard drive and windows 8?
Can an Airport X-Ray Erase a Hard Drive?

"Because X-rays penetrate solid matter, it may seem logical that they could harm electrical equipment and erase hard drives. While it's important to take precautions to protect your laptop's hard drive and information, you don't have to worry about damage from X-rays when you send a laptop through an airport X-ray machine."
X-Ray shouldn’t do any damage to your hard drive. They are not magnetically charged, but something like a metal detector could easily corrupt the data. If that’s the case the hard drive should still be usable, try a recovery or a reinstall. If you need the data from it try restore options. Also you can always check the bios to see if your hard drive is recognized by the machine.
