How to use a mouse with a Chromebook?

I really like Chromebooks (except for printing, ugh). However, I don’t care for touchpads on laptops, and the Chromebook is no exception. I’d like to use a wireless mouse, but I’m not sure if that’s possible. I have both an HP and Toshiba Chromebook, if that makes any difference.
Both Chromebooks should have a usb port, if you have a wireless mouse, bug in the receiver and the drivers should load automatically.
If you want to use a Bluetooth mouse take a look at the syncing instructions: https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/2587653
