Are there tools that can help us to virtualize databases without generating the additional cost of duplicate storage?

Virtualization is great for traditional application servers, since if a cpu is idle for one application, then others can utilize the available power. But what about database servers? We have to maintain similar storage for development, QA/testing, and production. As our production data grows, is there a way for us to minimize the storage requirements so we're not purchasing 3x as much storage as is required by production?

Have you looked into products like Delphix? I believe they rely on deduplication to reduce the size of the data being stored, which could lead to smaller database sizes, faster queries, and spending less money on data storage.
