How are Intel and AMD approaching the need for computers that can handle massively more complex processing?

I'm assuming that Intel is still the way to go when it comes to choosing servers that can handle the analytics required by big data, but what do Intel and AMD have in the pipeline to address our growing needs?

One thing to keep in my while choosing a computer is the processor. You will pay a significantly larger amount of money for something you might not need. Check out this blog for quick yet very informative reasons why.

Intel has been a technology leader for years, and you can tell by their OpenCirrus Project, they're heavily invested in working on the problems presented by Big Data.

Of course, AMD is coming out with 12-core Bulldozer processors, which will give a lot more bang for your buck if you need to analyze geometrically larger data sets.

 

But Intel and AMD aren't the only players in the Big Data space. Look for some pushback from NVidia, the graphics chip manufacturer. As it turns out, GPU processing is now competing with CPU processing for scaling to handle the analysis of massive data sets.
