My iPhone is really slow at syncing. Is this a sign it's dying?

I have a iPhone 4 and it's really slow to sync. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Or is it just supposed to die over time so I'll want to buy a new iPhone 5?

Hi SilverHawke,

iOS 5 is out and you might want to consider an upgrade. You can turn on wi-fi syncing in iTunes and your phone will sync automatically each time you plug it into a power source. This makes keeping your phone synced much easier, you need not pay attention to it or plug it directly into itunes.

Apple's iOS 5 feature set list is here:

Hah, no your iPhone isn't dying, it's just syncing a bunch of cruft. The way to clean it up and speed up your syncing is to remove all the updates that are cluttering up your hard drive (and subsequently your iPhone update stream).

in OSX

/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup

in Windows

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER_NAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\SyncServices\Local

Then perform another sync, after this sync, your iPhone syncing should return to normal speeds. And once IOS5 comes out this September, your iPhone will be able to sync in the background via wifi, which should make it a bit less painful to sync.
