Do I need to install Antivirus on every virtual instance?

If I'm running a bunch of virtual servers off a virtual host, does each instance need to have antivirus installed, or can I get by with only installing the antivirus on the host server?

Do not forget to exclude Hyper-V files from the scanning engine. If you fail to do so, you could end up with a string of errors and it is possible your VMs won't run properly. For more information, check out

YES. Every instance of a virtual machine needs just as much protection as a physical machine would, even if it's only used for a temporary server. Managing licenses for antivirus and antimalware isn't any fun, but that's the price we pay for not running Macs. Or hardened Linux.
