What does the Apple watch do to differentiate it from other smartwatches?

The Apple watch was revealed, with the lowest priced Watch Sport model listing for $350 and what I guess you would call the “standard” Apple Watch starting at $550. This seems on the expensive side, considering most of the competitive smartwatches sell for significantly less. Does the Apple Watch do anything that other smartwatches do not to make it worth the premium price?
In my opinion, it doesn't offer much more than the competition other than arguably better style (and I'd actually dispute that when compared to some of the more stylish Android watches). The battery life is poor. However, it does offer the ability to make calls through your watch. Not sure how useful that really is to most people, and you are going to look like an idiot if you do it in public.

I guess the ability to use Apple Pay could be pretty useful. I'm really having a hard time coming up with much beyond that.
