Is it worth seeking out cloud providers that meet ISO/ISE 27018 standards for personal data protection?

Microsoft has signed onto to ISO/ISE 27018 standards for protection of data according to a recent blog post by Brad Smith, MS’s General Counsel and Executive of VP Legal and Corporate Affairs. Does this really ensure a higher level of data security, or is it one of those things that a company can easily claim to follow for marketing purposes?
The blog post is here:

Good for them, and hopefully more vendors will line up with this standard. The idea is to bring disparate privacy standards from different geographies into one coherent set of policies. While right now it is more the latter (marketing fluff) eventually as more vendors sign up, it will become more meaningful.
