How to use Kindle Cloud Reader with non-Kindle tablets?

I don’t have a Kindle, but I do have an Amazon Prime account, and since they increased the price late last year, I’ve been trying to get my money’s worth out of Prime. I haven’t made use of Kindle Cloud Reader yet, and I don’t have a Kindle but I do have a Nexus tablet. How can I use my tablet to read books using Kindle Cloud Reader?
You actually want to download the Kindle app for your Android tablet from the Google Play store, rather than use the Cloud reader -- the latter is more suitable for occasional use inside a web browser. I find the Cloud reader somewhat annoying, whereas the regular Kindle app to be very nicely done. Of course, if you want to stick with your Prime subscription next year you might look around and see if Amazon is offering any enticements to buy one of their tablets and include a free year's service as part of the deal -- I really like the latest Fire HDX tablet.
