How to fix ASUS laptop's black screen upon startup?

I have an ASUS Windows 8 laptop with Intel HD graphics. I was on it one day and had updated it. After it finished updating, upon signing in, I was left with just a black screen. I could see my cursor and could move it. Ctrl+Alt+Del was perfectly functional. I went on the Internet and nothing helped. I tried restarting it. Several times. No matter how many times I restart it, it doesn't work. Please help me!!!!!!

If you can get to your Task Manager. Go to processes , end task on the Third-Party Start Button that you may have install. sometimes the windows 8-8.1 update doesnt like a third- party start button.

If you can't get to the task Manager try removing the laptop battery the HHD and try to start up in BIOS by pressing Delete or F2. reset you BIOS to default. then put everything to gather. boot it up to see if that works.

If that doesnt work try this, take the battery out unplus the AC so theres no power going to it. take the CMOST battery out so it resets everything. then hold the power bottom so all the power is gone from the laptop. then put everything back togather. Hopefully this helps n.n

I think, explorer.exe file is missing from your computer. so you need to open the task bar and run explorer.exe command on it. it will start working fine.

I have the very same problem, after a forced windows update alll i got was a black screen. Was able to get to troubleshoot and advanced options screen. But nothing i tried worked. Tried reset, refresh, system restore automatic repair, even did the unplug battery hold down button for 30 second trick. Nothing would work. Got a message during one proceedure that there was a problem with a partition. What irks me is there was NOTHING WRONG prior to the windows update. Can anyone offer me any help please?
