How to prevent videos on websites from automatically playing?

I do not like it when videos auto-start on websites I visit. It’s especially annoying when I’m sitting at my desk in a quiet office, and without any warning...BLAH, BLAH, BLAH! Grrrr. How can I stop videos from auto-playing? I use a Chromebook at home and a Windows 7 PC with IE at work, and I’d love to stop it on both.
I suggest adding a plugin like Flashblock or something like that. After you install it you'll have to click flash objects to play them. That's probably your best bet.
For Chrome:
1. Click on the “hamburger” icon in the top right corner and select Settings.
2. Scroll down and click on Show advanced settings.
3. Scroll down again to the Privacy section, then click on Content settings.
4. In the resulting dialog box, scroll down to Plug-ins and select Click to play. Hit the Done button.

After you do this, a Flash window will appear as a gray box with a jigsaw piece icon when there is auto-play video. If you want to watch the video, click in that box.

I don’t have IE in front of me at the moment. I’ll check and post how to do it with IE when I get a chance.
