Just about everyone is offering their version of Hadoop these days, from IBM to smaller software companies. The three biggest in terms of market share are Cloudera, Hortonworks and MapR. But Hadoop isn’t a single entity: there are dozens of different open source projects that supplement and complement the big data tool that are constantly undergoing updating and enhancements. Luckily, the folks at Network World have been keeping track and you can see (at least as of June 2014) where the big three are in terms of offering their support for these various supplemental programs. And with the release of Hadoop v2, there are significant performance and architectural enhancements that haven’t completely trickled down to each of these projects yet.
