How to update firmware on AT&T U-verse 2-Wire Residential Gateway (RG)?

Is there a way to manually update the firmware on the 2-Wire RG?

I’m pretty sure that you can’t do it manually; you have to wait for the management platform to push out updates. From a post on dslreports by user dslguy:

"You have to wait for our management platform. Typically firmware updates are released for a specific geographic area during a maintenance window.

Once the update is released for a batch of RG's one of two things will happen:
1)The RG receives and obeys the command, takes the update immediately and reboots (majority).
2)The RG has 'gone off the ranch', cannot be contacted by the management server, and does not know it has an update.
At that point the firmware will be held in pending status until that RG checks in again, typically after a reboot.
Once that happens, the update is normally held until the next window."
