How to get SSL certificate for SMB website?

Does it make sense for a small business with a fairly basic website to get an SSL certificate so it can establish secure HTTPS connections? I’m all for HTTPS, and use HTTPS Everywhere in my browser, so I don’t need convincing on the merits of it in a perfect world. I’m more concerned about how much time and effort it would take.

If you don’t have an ecommerce site, it might not matter that much, although Google has said that lack of HTTPS will have a minor negative effect on a sites search ranking. The impact could grow over time, but I don’t know of a way to quantify the impact.

To put it in it’s most basic terms, getting an SSL certificate for your website is a five step process:
1. Host with a dedicated IP address
2. Buy a certificate
3. Activate the certificate
4. Install the certificate
5. Update your site to use HTTPS
