Will Verizon’s $7.4 million fine be enough to stop companies from using personal info for marketing?

Verizon got hit with a $7.4 million dollar fine by the FCC for failing to tell customers that they could “opt out” of having the company use their personal information for marketing purposes. Will this persuade companies to respect their customers’ privacy, or will they keep on doing this kind of thing anyway?

Well, every little bit helps I guess. But companies like Verizon probably make far more than the fine by doing this sort of thing. So my guess is that it probably won't stop such behavior. But I don't think it will hurt either to hold these companies accountable, and it may encourage at least some of them to change their ways.
