What is SDE (Software Defined Everything)?

I heard the term SDE used today, and when I asked what it was I was told “Software Defined Everything.” Um, ok, but what is Software Defined Everything? It sounds like a pretty broad term.

Software-defined data centers (SDDCs) enable IT to optimize the rapid creation and delivery of business services. SDDCs deliver services with greater reliability through policy-based automation—from the infrastructure up to the application—using a unified view of physical and virtual resources

"SDE is used to group several software-defined computing technologies into an overarching name. Through software defined everything, computing infrastructures are virtualized and delivered as a service where networking, storage or data center services are automated by programmable software instead of hardware, resulting in a more dynamic and cost effective solution.  Software-defined networking (SDN), software-defined data center (SDDC) and software-defined storage (SDS) are some of the technologies under the SDE umbrella." - From SDE by Kevin Clark
