Will Microsoft require mandatory updates to all versions of IE in order to receive security patches?

Microsoft has apparently stopped automatic security updates to Internet Explorer 11 unless you install a mandatory update. I’m concerned that this may cause issues with other business applications that make use of Internet Explorer. Is this new policy limited to IE11 or has it been implemented for all versions of IE?

Agree with Jim, it's only IE11, at least for now. This is the same thing Microsoft did with the Windows 8.1 update, so I would expect this to be the norm in the future.

As far as I can tell, it's just for IE 11.

Prerequisite updates for Internet Explorer 11
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2847882

"When you install Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7, the installer program tries to automatically install some prerequisite components. If this part of the installation fails, Internet Explorer stops the installation process.

In this situation, you must install the prerequisite software manually before you can install Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7.

To do this, use the links in the "List of prerequisite updates for Internet Explorer 11" section to obtain the individual update components."
