How to prevent Facebook from using browsing history for targeted advertising?

It seems like the struggle to protect a modicum of online privacy is a never ending battle. Facebook announced it plans to gather user browsing history for use in targeted advertising. Short of deleting my account, is there anything I can do to stop them from doing this?

The first answer is a good option if you want to keep Facebook. However, I suggest getting rid of it altogether. I did a while back and I don't miss it at all. Good riddance to it.

Why you should delete your Facebook account

"Facebook still gets a lot of press these days, and it supposedly has more than a billion users. But I’ve pretty much given up on it for business and personal use. Over the last couple of years I’ve found that Facebook just wasn’t worth the effort and time that I was putting into it.

First I deleted the Facebook pages for my blogs, and then I eventually deleted my Facebook account altogether."
