What happened to Facebook’s Slingshot iOS app?

A friend of mine sent a link about Slingshot, an iOS app that essentially works like Snapchat - it lets you send and receive photos and videos that are automatically deleted once they are viewed. However, the app had already been pulled by the time I had a chance to check it out. What’s up? Why did Facebook pull Slingshot?

"Facebook accidentally gave a sneak peek at its new photo- and video-sharing app, Slingshot.

Facebook prematurely released a version of the app on Monday and then took it down from the iTunes app store."

It was an accidental release, and they figured it out. According to Facebook:

“Earlier today, we accidentally released a version of Slingshot, a new app we’re working on. With Slingshot, you’ll be able to share everyday moments with lots of people at once. It'll be ready soon and we’re excited for you to try it out.”
