How to change network profile for a WiFi connection in Windows 8?

How can I prevent Windows 8 from automatically assigning “public” status to a WiFi connection that I trust and want to be treated as a “private” network, so that I can enable file sharing?

1. Call up the “charms bar.”

2. Select “settings” then click the network icon.

3. Right click, assuming you are using a mouse, on the network that you want to treat as a private network.

4. Change the setting to private for the network you want  to treat as such in the resulting pop-up menu.
