How to stop Firefox update message on each start?

Lately, every time I start Firefox I get a message that says “you’ve been updated to the latest version of Firefox.” I know that Firefox updates automatically on a frequent basis, but not this frequently. If I started it 5 times in an hour I would get 5 update messages. This isn’t that big of a deal, but it is a little annoying. Any ideas on how to stop it from happening?

Lola seems to have the right answer for this. You might also want to check the Firefox Support forum:

According for Mozilla, one of the common causes for this is that the update page accidentally gets saved as the homepage, so that’s what you would see each time you open the browser.

It could also be a problem with Firefox being unable to properly save changes to the preferences files, which prevents the update notification from being toggled off. You can find more at the following link, including how to address both issues.
