What is SIP Trunking?

I’m a little confused about VoIP telephony terminology, specifically the term “SIP Trunking.”. Is SIP Trunking just another way to say VoIP, or does it refer to something else?

SIP (Session Initiated Protocol) Trunking is the used to make VoIP calls, so it is a component of VoIP, but not VoIP itself. You can read a more thorough explanation here:
