How to edit video for YouTube

I have a video on a CD that's too long. I want to edit and upload to my YouTube account. I'm looking for a cheap (free) editing tool. I don't need anything fancy. Thanks for the help!

If you need to cut the video length, you can try to use Video Converter Ultimate. Before you upload to YouTube, this program can also help you rip the video from your CD. Check the in-depth tutorial to trim your video: http://www.videos-converter.net/tutorials/trim-video.html

If you want to reduce the file size for your video, you may consider using Free Online Converter (http://www.apowersoft.com/free-online-video-converter) which also comes with an editor. You can reduce the file size by changing the resolution, bitrate and some other settings. Also, converting the video file to the formats like MP4, WMV and FLV can help you reduce file size as well.

YouTube does have its own editor:

"With the Video Editor, you can:

Combine multiple videos and images you've uploaded to create a new video
Trim your clips to custom lengths
Add music to your video from a library of approved tracks
Customize clips with special tools and effects

You can get to the Editor at http://www.youtube.com/editor"

You can use Picasa if you already have it installed. It’s very rudimentary, but you can do what you need to do. It works better with some formats that others. A better option would be VLC Player, which is free and open source. In addition to being a great all around video player (I’m not shilling for them, I use it because I like it.), it has some editing features, and editing the video length would be simple.

Here is the link to videoLAN where you can download VLC Player. You didn’t mention what OS you are using, but if you scroll down to the bottom you should be able to find the right VLC version.
